Flagship Scholars

Our goal is to provide a $15,000 four-year scholarship in every county of Missouri. Currently, four counties in Missouri have established Flagship Scholarships: Audrain, Caldwell, Clark and Marion. Change a Life

Each scholarship recipient will receive a four-year scholarship. Priority for these scholarships will be given to students who are the first in their families to attend college and who demonstrate outstanding service, leadership and financial need.

The scholarship can be used at the University of Missouri’s flagship campus, MU, with no restrictions on the student’s degree, major or academic unit. The scholarship ensures the student’s full tuition and fees and other educational expenses such as room, board and books are covered.

Change a Community

Peer-to-peer contact is one of the best ways to promote college attendance. The more frequently high school students or high school graduates come into contact with peers who have college plans, the more likely they are to consider college. University of Missouri Flagship Scholars will be ambassadors for education and for MU, as they will give back at least 20 hours per year promoting education and college attendance in their home community.

Change Missouri

Many Missourians consider earning a college degree beyond their reach. In fact, in more than half of the counties in Missouri, fewer than 12 percent of adults hold a college degree. University of Missouri Flagship Scholars aims to change that, and doing so could have a profound and positive impact on the state.

The program will establish a statewide network of MU alumni, MU Extension representatives, school administrators and community leaders focused on promoting attendance at MU and providing the support students need to get there.
One economist estimates that for every 1 percent increase in the proportion of the population holding a college degree, there is a nearly 2 percent increase in the wages of workers without a college degree.

Our goal is to award more scholarships in fall 2010. We’re working to identify partners and supporters to help us meet that goal.

A gift of $300,000 funds one four-year scholarship awarded every four years.
A gift of $1.2 million funds four, four-year scholarships, awarded one per year for four years.
