For All We Call Mizzou Campaign Reaches 75 Percent of $1 Billion Goal

Jan. 4, 2007

Year-end gifts to the University of Missouri-Columbia pushed the For All We Call Mizzou campaign total to more than 75 percent of its $1 billion goal, which the University hopes to achieve by December 2008. Since the campaign started in 2000, fundraisers have generated $752.2 million, exceeding their goal of reaching $750 million by the end of 2006.

Gifts to the For All We Call Mizzou campaign enhance MU’s ability to compete nationally and internationally for the best students and faculty, provide broad access for students of all economic backgrounds to Missouri’s flagship University and improve programs and facilities. Gifts to the campaign in the past six years have made a significant impact:

* Contributions of $165.5 million have created 474 new endowed scholarships.

* Donors have contributed $59.2 million to support faculty positions. With this funding, 69 new endowed positions have been created. Last year, world-renowned scientist Frederick Hawthorne was recruited from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) to join the MU faculty as co-director of the new International Institute for Nano and Molecular Medicine.

* The campaign has raised $358.2 million to enhance programs and facilities. The construction of the Reynolds Journalism Institute was made possible by a $31 million gift from the foundation of alumnus Donald W. Reynolds. An $8.5 million gift to the For All We Call Mizzou campaign funded the creation of the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, where researchers are working to find new treatments for children with autism.

“Generous gifts to the For All We Call Mizzou campaign help make Mizzou accessible to high-achieving students and make it possible for us to recruit top-notch faculty. We are very grateful to the donors who make this possible and excited to have reached 75 percent of our $1 billion goal,” said MU Chancellor Brady Deaton.

The $752.2 million campaign total includes gifts from alumni, corporations, foundations, friends, grants, organizations and students. The majority of the donors to the campaign are individuals.
