Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders

MU Alumni William and Nancy Thompson launched the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders with an $8.5 million gift in April 2005.

“Our charge to MU is to make a difference in the study of autism — make a difference for the children with autism today, make a difference for their families and make a difference for the future, so that when a child is diagnosed with autism, his or her family has well-founded hope,” William Thompson said at the event announcing the Thompsons' gift. This gift has endowed two faculty chair positions and provided funds for other startup activities.

The Thompson Center has the potential to expand research efforts, academic opportunities and outreach capabilities for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Private philanthropy will lead the University toward national prominence in the developmental sciences. More importantly, the Thompson Center will improve the lives of children and families in Missouri and the nation.

You can help the University realize this ambitious goal by providing support for:

  • Students — scholarships and fellowships;
  • Faculty — endowed chairs and professorships;
  • Programs — for both children and families; and
  • Facilities — proposed Child and Family Sciences Institute.

We invite you to share our vision of service, research and teaching, and join us in making a difference.
